In an effort to increase
the pool of technology professionals in the IT industry for
the anticipated demand for WAP, m-Commerce and wireless technology,
Genovate Solutions Private Limited is the first in Singapore
to offer training and certification for IT professionals
in the region. As part of this initiative, Genovate has partnered
with AU Systems to offer this programme. Sparked by an open,
web based protocol, network operators, handset manufacturers
and content developers have all implemented solutions that
have led to a groundswell of support for WAP deployments
around the world, and continue to push forward to provide
e-commerce services on these mobile devices. Genovate Solutions
seeks to equip the professional workforce with the required
skills to provide end-to-end solutions, particularly WML
gateways, WAP servers, and other related technologies. AU
Systems will transfer skills to Genovate and will provide
the necessary courseware to ensure adherence to quality standards.
Genovate has state of the art facilities and expertise to
deliver the training where each participant will have the
opportunity to develop personalized WAP applications. The
program will include certification with AU systems for successful
candidates to endorse their competency. "Global demand
for mobile devices has been projected to reach 150 million
units by the end of the year 2000 of which 50 million units
will be WAP enabled. By the end of 2003, demand will escalate
to 220 million units, of which 200 million mobile devices
will be WAP enabled – that is phenomenal growth. Our
collaboration with AU Systems will give birth to a ready
supply of skill professionals for enterprise applications
to meet this demand in the region. We are indeed pleased
to partner with AU Systems, to offer a leading-edge technology
training for our customers" said J. Anton Ravindran,
Executive Director of Genovate. "By the end of this
year (2000), Singapore will be a showcase for advanced wireless
services. We could see WAP applications used by every Singapore
family in 18 months," said Mack Palomaki, Director of
AU Systems.
