A FUND will be set up to help children who have been
exposed to undesirable content from the Internet, one of
the two initiatives announced by the Internet Industry
Association of Singapore at its launch yesterday.
The money, to be raised from the association’s 24-member
companies, trade events and sponsors, will go towards education,
psychiatric counseling and even legal help for these children,
said Mr Anton Ravindran, Chairman of trade association
that band together businesses and organizations that deal
with the Internet in its day-to-day operations.
The association, which focuses solely on cyberspace,
also announced that it will set up a portal to teach Internet
users about spam, phishing and privacy-related security
issues when using e-mail and making transactions on the
Internet.
Education Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who was guest-of-honor
at the event, said the Government, in particular the Infocomm
Development Authority of Singapore, is “keen to collaborate” with
the association to address the problem of abuse on the
Internet.
